The Rapaura Watergardens offers quality accommodation, a fantastic cafe and beautiful gardens for you to explore.  They also cater for group visits, weddings and private functions. 


Rapaura offer accommodation in either The Lodge or The Cottage, both situated in the grounds of Rapaura Watergardens. During the hours of 9-5, the Watergardens are open to the public but when the gate closes, the estate becomes your own private playground. In summer, enjoy a swim and a BBQ; in winter curl up by the fire with a book, music or board game.

No television, just peace and the sound of running water. You can take a leisurely walk around the 2km man-made garden which was created in the early 1960s. Take your time and venture up through regenerating native bush to a cascading waterfall.

Water Gardens

Recommended by international travel guidebooks, Rapaura is a 64-acre private estate nestled in the midst of the Coromandel Forest Park with a short 2km nature walk through the gardens.

Rapaura is an example of man in harmony with nature. Abundant native bush and ferns, birds (Tuis, Fantails, Silver Eyes and Wood Pigeons), meandering walks over bridges and streams and a bush walk to a cascading waterfall. There are seasonal displays of native and exotic flowers. Irises and Bog plants in spring, Azaleas and Rhododendrons followed by Orchids, Begonias, Hydrangeas and Water Lilies from November to April. All interspersed with garden art.

Indulge yourself with home-baked delights, 'dam' good coffees, hearty soups and scrumptious sandwiches from KORU cafe located at Rapaura Watergardens.


Rapaura Watergardens is located a 25min drive north of Thames on Tapu-Coroglen Road in Tapu.
